At the ripe old age of 9 months old, Elijah had his first "procedure" done ... we don't waste time in LA! We joke about it now but Elijah had to go under the knife to what ended up being a re-circumcision. He was circumcised in the hospital by one of the OBs from my doctors office, well she left a little too much skin. When he was a few weeks old it looked like a big blister so his doctor recommended we go see a Pediatric Eurologist. We made the hour trek allll the way to Cedars Sinai for the doctor to look at him and say, "oh, that's just a little extra skin, he'll grow into it". Well Corey wasn't satified with that answer, every time he would change Elijah's diaper, he'd say, "babe, it's not suppose to look like that!" I've never had a penis before so how am I suppose to know what it looks like when it's that small! So every month at his wellness check ups Corey would have me ask the doctor to check it out ... again. Each time she'd say, "it's just extra skin, he'll grow into it" - high hopes for the little guy!
Finally at his 8 month check up we saw one of the doctors (there's 3 in his peds office) and of course I asked again to see if she had a different answer than the other two docs. This time, she really looked at it and discovered there was scar tissure around the head where the skin was re-attaching! Her words: "I have twin boys and if one of their penis looked like that, I'd have the specialist look at it again" ... that was all we needed to hear. She referred us back to the same office at Cedars but with the Head of Eurology. He was amazing!! He told us that the scar tissue needed to be removed and while he was in there, did we want him to "clean it up and remove the extra skin" ... Uhhhh Yeah! Corey was sooo excited!! He told the doctor - "I knew it wasn't suppose to look like that!!" Before we could really think about it, he scheduled the surgery for the next week. We were happy that he would have his little issue corrected and that he wouldn't have a complex because of his funny looking penis (according to Corey) but totally freaked out that he would have to be put under.
Everything went great, it took longer than expected because they thought it was a little bit of scar tissue but once they started, they saw that the skin re-attached almost all the way around so it ended up being a re-circumcision.
So now Elijah has a perfect penis!!
Now the joke is that "He's had work done" and that our son has a $25,000 penis ... the cost of the surgery, thank God for insurance!!
Pre-Op in his little hospital gown
Post-Op ... Such as sad sight, he was totally drugged!
The IV in his little foot! :(
I had to include this post in my blog because my family & girlfriends knew about the surgery and were praying for us but they've never seen the pics, Oh and I'm sure Elijah will appreciate me talking about his penis in such detail!!
One piece of advice for my friends having boys ... ask who is doing your son's circumcision, how many they've done and do they like doing them or is it just something they have to do as a doctor. Our Eurologist told us most OBs don't like doing them, and usually leave too much skin to be safe. If it's something that's a chore - ask for another doctor!!!

This is great! I love that you started a blog. Your write just like you sound, so its super fun to read. :-) Miss you guys!

So sorry that your little guy had to go through this... but he sure looks sooo cute in that hospital gown. :) Glad to hear he's doing better, as well as your hubby doing better. LOL.
